    Wow, they are a lot more interesting than I was expecting! Even the first page of his College notebook is fascinating – how he uses quite long-winded language because the conventions and notation for talking about this kind of thing concisely didn’t yet exist.

    He had the correct attitude to crossing out: not a neat line but a furious scribble that you were so stupid as to make an error in the first place!

    “quintuplicate” is an excellent word.
